Sara June’s Process for Destination Weddings & Elopements

If you’ve ever wondered what Sara June’s process is during your destination wedding or elopement? How we know where the perfect spots are? How we have time to give you a sneak peak at your wedding photos the day after your wedding? Yes, we are superheroes armed with cameras and a mission to make sure you are completely taken care of on your big day. Just like you, Sara June Photography puts in a lot of time and research into your day so you have beautiful memories captured at the perfect time with the right lighting. Sara June’s Preparation Process: 

We love to arrive two days prior to your wedding. For example, if you have a Friday destination wedding, we’ll come on Wednesday. This way if there are delays or inclement weather, we will still arrive before your special day. 

• Organize and charge our equipment
• Scout locations in and around the resort for the perfect photo spot
• Pay close attention to the sun – we look at your timeline so that we know what areas will be shaded/sunny and when
• Look for places and times with the most flattering light or really pretty at certain times during the day – especially if you have an outdoor ceremony! 
• Know when we should use artificial light (like flash!) during your wedding – we’re trained for all types of conditions

Before your Destination Wedding or Elopement: 

To make your wedding day as seamless as possible, I like to do as much as I can beforehand. You don’t have to wait for me to bring your wedding dress back to you after I take detailed shots, and you don’t have to worry about me missing any photo opportunity while you get ready for the ceremony. 

• Steal away your wedding dress, shoes, and details to do fun flat-lays or detailed shots (especially along the beach!) the day before or the morning of your wedding
• Grab the groom’s shoes and details to take creative shots (we have outfit ideas for warm climates if you need inspiration!)
• Scout and finalize our locations for first look, couples portraits, family photos, sunset photos, etc.

Options for You Before your Destination Wedding or Elopement: 

Sara June couples have the unique opportunity to include additional sessions before or after their special day. Think about what you’d like to incorporate during your ocean elopement or sandy destination wedding! 

• Boudoir session (check out our Facebook page!) 
• Full family photos/Extended family photos (with or without your wedding attire on – our clients love to do this if they have family spread out all over the world or country and many are together for the wedding)
• Sunset session along the beach
• Portraits (don’t worry if you don’t know how to pose, we’ll guide you!) 
• Excursions (think: your guests celebrating on a catamaran with the two of us capturing all of the fun)
• Surprise extra sessions – like the welcome cocktail hour and/or rehearsal dinner

Sara June’s Process During your Wedding: 

Other than the obvious (capturing your wedding or elopement!), we are dedicated to being as helpful as possible. 

• Take video and photos of you and your wedding party getting ready
• Creative shots with your flowers and other details! 
• Photograph and record your wedding ceremony
• Family photos
• Wedding party photos
• Couples portraits – soak in this time alone together
• Sunset photos! 
• Dinner and reception photos (we typically stay about an hour or two into the dancing) 
• Work with other wedding vendors to coordinate the perfect wedding

Post Wedding or Elopement: 

After the excitement of your big day, we like to make sure you are taken care of as festivities wrap up. If you decide to have an extra session after your wedding and not before, we schedule a time that works best for you. Otherwise, you get to enjoy the day after your wedding, relax, and will soon see your finished photos! 

• Do one more extra session (let’s hop in the water and shoot some dreamy ocean portraits of you two in your wedding dress/suit)
• Organize and look over your beautiful photos as soon as possible so we can give you a sneak peak ASAP
• Double/triple backup our files from the wedding day
• Securely pack all of our equipment
• Take a breather! 
• Begin our travel home
• Send you your wedding photos!
