Wedding photographer with a knack for picture perfect details and a heart that beats for travel and adventure.
I LOVE getting ready photos! They are such an intimate, fun part of your wedding day. Everyone running around getting their hair and makeup done, fussing over the bride, so excited that the big day is finally here! Sometimes amid the hustle and bustle, things can get crazy, so it’s always great to have a plan. I’ve put together a list of 5 things to keep in mind for your getting ready photos, I hope this helps your wedding day get off to a great start!
Your outfit is an essential part of your getting ready aesthetic. Be sure to pick something that’s comfortable, fits your style, and is easy to move around in. Matching silk robes, cute pajamas and personalized nighties are all popular choices for pre-wedding attire.
Think about where the photos will be taking place. Is it big enough for the number of people you expect to be present? Usually when you make a list of how many people are typically in and out of the getting ready space, it’s longer than you think. Often, it will be: the bride, bridesmaids, bride’s mother, groom’s mother, photographer, etc. As well as a similar number at the men’s location. Be sure there is enough room for everyone to move around.
Another thing to consider is the light, as a photographer, I’m always thinking about the light! Your photos will be so much better if your getting ready location has windows for natural light, and I’m sure your makeup artist will appreciate it too!
Have an idea of how long things will take. Often brides will underestimate how much time their hair and makeup will need, as well as their bridesmaids. It’s always nice to pad your timeline a little, even if it’s just for extra breathing room and peace of mind.
Your photographer will thank you. I can’t tell you how helpful it is when you have everything set aside in a box, ready for photos. Photographers want to do the best possible job for their couples and it makes a big difference when everything is organized.
Some of the things you may want to consider having prepared are:
· pretty hanger for dress
· shoes, jewelry, accessories, perfume etc.
· invite suite
· florals
Or for men:
· socks
· watch
· cufflinks
· tie
· pocket square
This is so important. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a bride rush through her getting ready time, stressing about hair and makeup and every little detail. This is your time to take a deep breath, relax, and get excited about your wedding. It only happens once, let’s make sure it’s the best day ever!
