Wedding photographer with a knack for picture perfect details and a heart that beats for travel and adventure.
Kelsey and Mike’s Green Bay wedding was captured by our Wisconsin Wedding Videographer and Photography team. Mike and Kelsey were able to get the full Sara June Photography experience by having us cover both photo and video coverage. It was cloudy, snowy, and incredibly windy on this wedding day, which eventually turned into a squall after dark. We weren’t sure we were going to be able to get our drone up at first, but we did thankfully!
Kelsey and Mike originally met through mutual friends. They have been together for 9 years and enjoy boating, watching movies and TV shows, and playing games. They also enjoy doing fun adventures with their daughters, Charlotte and Kiana. Kelsey was totally shocked when Mike proposed.
He had always joked that the 10-year mark was when they would get married. On Christmas morning, when Kelsey woke up she noticed something on the wall but thought it had something to do with their Elf saying goodbye to their kids until next year. Once the kids were finished opening presents, Mike said there was one last present and told Kelsey to videotape it. The girls pulled a string and a blanket fell down that had written on it, “Will You Marry Our Daddy?” While Kelsey videoed the kids pulling down the blanket, Mike was behind her trying to videotape her reaction and down on his knee holding the ring. It was an awesome surprise and the kids even knew about it and were so excited!
These moments captured in both photo and video were so special to Mike and Kelsey and their families because Mike’s mom passed away from COVID in October of last year. It was only four months before the wedding. She was a huge presence still on their day. He did his Mother-Son dance with his sister instead. Emotions flowed all day long, as family members mourned her absence.
Mike and Kelsey didn’t necessarily want to have a small wedding, but COVID was a huge weight on them. Mike had a picture of his mom inside his jacket by his heart. Also, they had a place setting for her set out at a table and had a memorial table to honor her.
Trevor and I knew how important this was to Mike and Kelsey, especially when one very significant part of the day happened. It was so windy that throughout the day, the venue doors were opening on their own. Someone made a mention after the ceremony that it was almost like Mike’s mom was there with them because the doors were opening when important things were happening. We were sure to get both video footage and photography coverage of the doors opening during their first dance, and also what would’ve been the Mother-Son Dance.
Other special moments in the ceremony included Kelsey and Mike doing a unity ceremony. They poured glass during the unity ceremony and the glass will be mixed and sent to a glass blowing company. The company will then make a customized vase for them. Such a great personal touch to their ceremony, we loved it!
It was important to the newlyweds for us to catch them having fun with everyone and get great shots. Trevor and I were so happy to be able to capture the fun and sentimental moments of Kelsey and Mike’s wedding day in both photo and video.
We know our couples love being able to plan well for both photography and videography coverage of their days. So be sure to check out our Wedding Videographer and Planning Guide to help you plan your dream wedding day too!
Congratulations Mike and Kelsey! We know that you will love looking back on all of your memories for lifetimes to come and we loved being a part of your special day!
